Dana White conference call Cliff Notes: 10/25/07

Let me sum it up for you guys.

  • Dana announced a four year extension to their contract with Spike TV.
  • The contract includes five more seasons of The Ultimate Fighter.
  • A new reality fight series will air in 2011, geared at replacing TUF, with a caliber of fighters one step above the current roster.
  • A face-to-face meeting with Randy Couture and his management is being scheduled. Neither side has ruled out the possibility of coming to a new agreement.
  • The UFC Heavyweight title will not be vacated until this meeting happens, and Randy himself tells Dana that he is retiring.
  • Dana mentioned a "good chance" we could see Dan Henderson fight Anderson Silva in the near future.
  • Brock Lesnar's first fight with the UFC is penciled in for the Superbowl Saturday event. Speculation about his opponent spans from Tim Sylvia to Brad Imes.
  • Arlovski was discussed briefly. Andrei is reported to be eager to fight, but Dana seemed to think that he had benched himself for now.
  • Dana reiterated that he felt the reason the deal with Fedor fell through was because Emelianenko's management was looking out for their own interests, and not Fedor's.
  • Dana said he delayed the announcement of the Wanderlei Silva / Chuck Liddell matchup until he was sure Chuck's head was in it, after his devastating loss to Keith Jardine.
  • Five events are scheduled for the UK in '08, and one event in Canada.
  • White is "100% sure" that the UFC will eventually be on HBO, but that the timing isn't right for now.
